Johnny Reed brings his band the Houserockers to the 2009 Riverside Bluesfest. |
Johnny Reed has been blowing northwest Ohio audiences away with his harp playing for more than a decade on the way to becoming a festival favorite with his band the Houserockers.
Picking up the harmonica while still in his teens, Reed's influences were blues masters Paul Butterfield, Sonny Boy Williamson and James Cotton and pop superstar Stevie Wonder. In a few years Johnny Reed was recording and touring with The Griswolds. That exposure and experience led to work with national acts Bo Diddley, Junior Wells, Billy Branch, Pinetop Perkins and many more.
In 1998, Reed teamed up with drummer Rolly Rayman and Johnny Reed & the Houserockers was born. A veteran of Ohio & Michigan blues jam sessions and a number of touring bands since 1975, Rayman lays down a rock-steady backbone for Houserockers Steve Mignano and Bill Cherry to build on, leaving Reed free to soar over the top with screaming harp solos or smooth vocals.
Also appearing at the Creekside Blues Festival in Gahanna, Ohio in June, Johnny Reed & the Houserockers heat up the 2009 Riverside Bluesfest stage at 6:30 pm Sunday, Sept. 6.
