The St. Marys Blues Guild welcomes The Jimi Vincent Band back to St. Marys and K.C. Geiger Park to the 2010 Riverside Bluesfest on Labor Day weekend -- and welcomes one of them here for the first time.
Just a week prior to The Jimi Vincent Band's scheduled appearance at the 2008 Riverside Bluesfest, their drummer (and Jimi Vincent's son), Dustin Smith, was involved in a deer/motorcycle accident that left Dustin seriously injured. He broke 16 bones in his face that took 12 hours of surgery to repair.
The Mansfield, Ohio band only cancelled a show that was scheduled during Dustin's surgery, found a temporary replacement drummer, and put on a tremendous Bluesfest performance as if nothing had happened. Talk about "the show must go on!"
Born James Vincent Smith, Jimi Vincent plays guitar, dobro and harp and writes the band's original songs. A natural performer who has played since the age of five, Jimi has shared a stage with Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, Robert Lockwood Jr., Tex Ritter (at age 11), The Charlie Daniels Band, Emmilou Harris, Travis Tritt, and many others. Maestro Sam Romagnoli takes his solo turns on the Godfather of all keyboard systems: the mighty mighty Hammond B-3 organ with twin(!) Leslie loudspeakers.
Bassist Bob Dutton has been jammin' with Jimi for more than 20 years, and Dustin Smith lays down the backbone for some of the most entertaining blues around. Just be extra careful on that bike this summer, Dustin.
Those who attended two years ago know the score: tell your friends not to miss The Jimi Vincent Band when they hit the stage on Saturday, Sept 4 at the 2010 Riverside Bluesfest.
