Riders win first game of season

WAPAKONETA - Adam Lininger skidded to the ground on his back and paused there for a second. The view from there was nice near the midcourt. The St. Marys senior just knocked down a go-ahead three-pointer with just over seven seconds to go against a Wapakoneta team he knew so well. The St. Marys bench and crowd were going crazy behind him and his team was about to finally get over the hump for its first victory of the season. The victory, the St. Marys-Wapakoneta rivalry and Lininger's shot knew no records in a thrilling contest featuring two teams heading into Friday night without a win this winter. ...more

Auglaize sheriff warns of scam

Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon is warning residents to be wary of a new telephone scam. Solomon said crooks are calling individuals and identifying themselves as U.S. court employees and telling them that they have been selected for jury duty. The callers ask the victims to verify their names and Social Security numbers and ask for credit card numbers. If victims refuse, the callers threaten them with fines. ...more

City targets downtown

ST. MARYS - A city official says he believes downtown St. Marys continues to be a viable option for development projects within the city. With work on the First Financial Bank building slated to begin in the spring, St. Marys Industrial and Community Development Manager Todd Fleagle said the landscape of downtown should change in the coming months. In addition to the bank project, Fleagle said city officials are now marketing land at the site of the former Cotton Mill to prospective developers. ...more

St. Marys man sentenced for sexual assault

ST. MARYS - 37 year old Tony Rodriquez of Saint Marys has been sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison for the sexual assault of a 20 year old man in May of last year. According to the police, the victim worked for Rodriquez at an area business. The assault occurred at Rodriquez's area home. In addition to the prison time, Auglaize County Common Pleas Court Judge Frederick Pepple fined Rodriquez 3-thousand dollars and ordered Rodriquez to pay nearly 500 dollars to the victim. ...more
Ridertown Note: -- A Google search informs us that a Tony Rodriquez, 37, manages a Celina business and is a 1991 graduate of Celina High School, whose Class Page shows a Celina address (possibly outdated). If he works and assaults in "area" locations, Ridertown.com takes issue with identifying him as a "St. Marys" man for the search engines. How about "Celina grad judged Tier 1"?

Auglaize blaze results from domestice [sic] dispute

MINSTER - A blaze, apparently started in the wake of a domestic altercation, destroyed at Minster-area cottage Tuesday morning. Six fire departments from Auglaize and Shelby counties braved cold wind chill temperatures to fight the fire. ...Nineteen-year-old Coleman had been drinking and demanded his car keys, according to Sheriff Dean Kimpel. Niekamp refused to hand them over and he reportedly punched her in the face repeatedly. She lost her balance and fell to the floor, where the assault allegedly continued with numerous kicks. ...Coleman told authorities he turned on the kitchen range after his girlfriend left and began tossing her clothing on the flame. ...more

Crown says layoffs linked to economy

NEW BREMEN - One of the most influential businesses in the area is continuing to lay off its workers. Crown Equipment Corporation, headquartered in New Bremen, recently notified a number of its employees of their termination. ST. MARYS - As the economy continues to take hits from a struggling auto industry, some suppliers in west central Ohio are making the difficult choice of laying off employees. AAP St. Marys corporation, a company of about 480 employees in St. Marys, supplies aluminum wheels to a host of automotive companies such as Ford, Honda and Subaru. The Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that 62 year old Gary Gallimore was driving east on State Route 364 when his truck slid through the intersection of 364 and State Route 703 and struck a car driven by 18 year old Annette Bruns of Celina. ...more
