September 23, 2009 - Press Release
Eagles Tailgate for Cancer Oct. 17

ST. MARYS -- Go Bucks!

Anyone who's been to "Hineygate" at an Ohio State football game or camped out in a stadium parking lot for a day knows how much fun a tailgate party is. A group of local volunteers is working with the St. Marys Eagles Aerie 767 on plans to host the biggest tailgate party ever held in St. Marys. Saturday, October 17, 2009 is the date for the first annual Eagles Tailgate for Cancer, to take place in the Eagles' parking lot at the corner of Spring and Spruce Streets in St. Marys.

The Eagles Tailgate for Cancer will be open to the public. The featured game is Ohio State at Purdue. The OSU Alumni Cheerleaders will be on hand to fire everyone up; a huge, nine-foot by twelve-foot LED video screen will be at the event to watch, and live entertainment by Chris Logsdon is planned during time-outs and before and after the game. The Eagles will prepare and sell tailgate-appropriate food, and adult beverages and soft drinks will be available.

The ten dollar entry fee will also register each ticket-buyer for the door prize drawing of a Caribbean cruise for two on the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, setting sail from February 25 to March 1, 2010. A score of former Buckeye athletes and coaches will join the prize winners on the 5-day, 4-night cruise to Key West and Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Archie Griffin, Kirk Herbstreit, Todd Boeckman, Earle Bruce, John Cooper, A.J. Hawk, Mike Nugent -- even Brutus! -- are some of those who will enjoy the February tropical weather on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ship "Grandeur of the Seas."

Another great feature of the Tailgate for Cancer is the Buckeye sports memorabilia auction. Framed jerseys of A.J. Hawk and Anthony Gonzalez; a 16"x20" framed and autographed picture of Archie Griffin and a football purse signed by Archie Griffin; framed and autographed photos of Kirk Herbstreit, Mike Nugent, Craig Krenzel, Coach Jim Tressel -- and too many more items to list here -- will be auctioned away at the Eagles Tailgate for Cancer on October 17.

The Buckeye Cruise for Cancer ocean-view cabin for two, the Buckeye sports auction memorabilia and even free tee shirts for the first 200 people attending are all donated by Travel Partners, the Dublin, Ohio travel agency of St. Marys native Lisa Cisco. The annual Buckeye Cruise for Cancer was Lisa's creation, and it has raised more than $200,000 for charity over the past 2 years.

As the names suggest, the Eagles Tailgate for Cancer and the Buckeyes Cruise for Cancer are charity fund raising events. All proceeds will benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, the OSU Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and the Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

Plan on enjoying the Ohio State-Purdue game at the Eagles Tailgate for Cancer on October 17. Tickets are available in advance at St. Marys Eagles, Style Salon, TLC Learning Center, Celina Road Animal Clinic, EZ Promotions or at the gate. Have a lot of fun, and help a truly worthy cause at the same time.
